OUR STORY

Fighting For What We Believe In. Together.

Who are we?

CliMobilize is a Canadian-registered non-profit (federal registration  number 1519488-1) established by Brad Zarnett and Ian Kaplan for 1 purpose:

UNITE the billions of people who want to protect the planet and give HOPE for a better future.

Why CliMobilize?

We all live in a system that leaves us no choice but to “self-harm” on a daily basis. We're essentially "forced" to make purchasing and lifestyle decisions whose eventual environmental impact is heatwaves, drought, forest forest, crop failures, inflation and more. When the same kinds of policies are enacted almost everywhere, shaping our lives and forcing us to make decisions that contribute to climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation that impacts all of us everywhere, national borders become irrelevant. No matter where policies may be made, it suddenly becomes all of our business.

Few disagree that the bond between politicians, corporations and their lobbyists is preventing meaningful action to address the greatest challenge facing humanity today: climate change and environmental disaster due to unceasing consumption encouraged by a global economy that prioritizes growth, often at the expense of the voting electorate, social justice and the environment.

The vast majority of the scientists involved with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) support the position that the mandate of the IPCC to examine the connection between human activity and climate change has been met and the science is unequivocal: human activities are at the heart of climate change and ecosystem degradation. They are also increasingly vocal in their criticism of the lack of follow-up, public awareness creation and political / system policy change.

As a logical progression to the work of the IPCC, CliMobilize, alongside like-minded partners, is seizing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to initiate and channel locally-focused awareness-raising throughout the Global North to de-risk political action that can catalyze essential global change.

What's our solution?

We believe politicians everywhere need to declare a national climate emergency AND also be held accountable for taking appropriate actions in line with such a declaration, making sure that they indeed implement and deploy the appropriate tools, processes and resources available to them in their country. The combined impact and implementation of activities associated with these declarations would be meaningful change, at scale. But this requires overcoming existing political obstacles and dynamics that currently align politicians with "big money" to retain the status quo, instead of having politicians align with the interests of the people and environment. We aim to change this.

What do we want to achieve?

Realigning the actions of politicians with the interests of the public and environment can enable policies that will bring economies back into balance with the natural world, justly & equitably.

Top-level goals

  • Empower politicians to take decisive steps that address the causes and consequences of climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation by de-risking their ability to implement regulation without fear of public backlash;

  • Break the bond between “big capital” and politics by reducing/eliminating politicians’ need for corporate financial support to facilitate a democratic reduction of non-essential consumption in richer countries [and related production everywhere];

  • Create immediate political accountability by connecting political activity during the existing election cycle with impactful progress towards meeting intermediate milestones along the path to achieving the ultimate long-term goal.
